The Propolia story starts with Marc-Alain Bernard, a beekeeper who set up his 600 hives near the shores of Lake Salagou, in Occitania, in 1975. The next year he discovered the qualities of propolis, until then considered a waste product of the hive, and in 1978 he developed his own process to purify and transform it. Propolia was born in 1979 with its very first Propolis Gums. By 1985 the brand was distributed by many French beekeepers and had opened a shop at its historic site in Clermont-l'Herault. Cosmetics joined the range in 1990, and between 2005 and 2014 the company built a site of more than 3,000 square meters to bring research, production, packaging and customer service under one roof. In 2017, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard handed the company over to their five children.
