The question we get most often from new customers: how does this actually work? You're in California or New York or Texas, and you want to order from a French pharmacy online. What happens between clicking "buy" and the package showing up at your door?
Here's the whole process, nothing glossed over.
Where We're Based and How We Operate
Paris Pharmacy is a direct-import operation based in Paris. We purchase products from licensed French distributors, the same supply chain that stocks pharmacies on Boulevard Saint-Germain and Rue de Rivoli. Products are stored in our Paris warehouse, packed per order, and shipped internationally via tracked airmail.
We're not a US-based company with "French" in the name that buys stock from American distributors. The products leave France. That's not a marketing statement. It's why you're getting the French formulation, French packaging, and French batch codes, because the products are actually coming from France.
Shipping Options and Delivery Times
We ship internationally via tracked postal services. For US customers, this typically means:
- Standard tracked shipping: 3 to 7 business days to major US cities
- Free on orders over $100*
- Flat rate below $100: standard postal rate, shown at checkout
3 to 7 business days is the typical window. During peak holiday periods (November-December, post-Christmas), add 1-3 days for customs processing. We've shipped thousands of orders and the vast majority arrive within the stated window.
Why No Overnight or 2-Day Shipping?
Because the products are coming from Paris, not a US warehouse. Express international shipping options exist, but the cost is prohibitive for skincare orders, adding $40-80 to the order, which defeats the purpose of buying at closer-to-French prices.
We're working on improving delivery speed over time. For now, 5-7 days is the honest estimate for standard tracked shipping.
Tracking Your Order
Every order ships with a tracking number. You'll receive it by email when your order is dispatched from Paris. The tracking updates as the package moves through French postal sorting, international transit, US customs, and final delivery.
Some tracking gaps happen between France and the US. This is normal for international tracked mail. The package is in transit; it just hasn't hit a scan point. If 14 business days pass with no delivery, contact us and we'll investigate.
Customs and Import Duties
US customs regulations allow personal-use cosmetic imports below a certain value threshold without duty. Most individual Paris Pharmacy orders fall below this threshold. For larger orders, customs duties may apply. These are the buyer's responsibility and collected by the carrier at delivery if applicable.
We declare shipments accurately. We don't undervalue packages on customs forms to avoid duties. It's illegal, and it creates problems for the customer if packages are held for inspection.
What Happens If Something Goes Wrong
Packages get lost. It's rare, but it happens with international shipping. Packages get damaged. Products occasionally break in transit.
Our policy is simple: if a package doesn't arrive or arrives damaged, we resend or refund. No complicated claims process, no blame-shifting to the carrier. We absorb that risk. If you receive something and it's wrong or damaged, contact us with photos and we'll sort it.
French Pharmacies That Ship to the USA: What to Look For
If you're comparing options for ordering French pharmacy products online, here's what matters:
Source Transparency
Can the seller tell you specifically where the products come from? Not "sourced from France" as a vague claim, but actual supply chain transparency. Do they buy from licensed French distributors? Do the products have original French packaging and batch codes?
Tracking
Every international shipment should be tracked. If a seller ships without tracking numbers, you have no recourse if the package doesn't arrive.
Return Policy
International returns are genuinely complicated and expensive. Most international sellers make returns impractical. We handle it case-by-case. If you receive a wrong or damaged product, we make it right without requiring you to ship back to Paris at your expense.
Realistic Delivery Estimates
Be skeptical of sellers claiming 2-3 day delivery from France. Either the products aren't actually coming from France, or they're using express shipping that will add significant cost somewhere in the process.
Which Products Can Be Shipped Internationally?
Almost everything we carry ships to the US without restriction. A few edge cases:
- Aerosols: some aerosol products (spray deodorants, certain dry shampoos) face air freight restrictions. We note this on affected product pages.
- High-SPF prescription products: certain prescription-strength sun filters aren't approved by the FDA for US import. We carry only non-prescription SPF products.
If you're unsure about a specific product, check the product page or contact us before ordering.
Why Buy French Pharmacy Online Instead of In-Store?
For most US customers, the alternative to ordering French pharmacy products online is buying through US retailers at significant markup, or not buying them at all, because many genuine French pharmacy brands have limited US distribution.
Brands like A313, Homeoplasmine, and certain Bioderma and Avene products are difficult to find through official US retail channels. They're available in France, in French pharmacies, at French pharmacy prices. Ordering from Paris Pharmacy is the most direct way to get them.
Even for brands with US distribution, including La Roche-Posay, Vichy, and Bioderma, our pricing is typically 10-15% below US retail. The savings are real, and the products are identical to what you'd find in a French pharmacy.
